Es
Pla is made up of a variety of different areas. We can attribute this to
its specialisation in agriculture and to the respective crops.
In the part of Es Pla that includes towns such as Montuïri, Sant Joan,
Vilafranca, Pina and Lloret de Vistalegre, cereal crops predominate. Here,
there are large expanses of land without a single tree that are devoid of
vegetation almost all year round. However, thanks to the microclimate, in
three months this land undergoes a metamorphosis and the colours of the
cereal fields change from the deepest green to a sea of yellow. |

On
the other hand, the part of Es Pla that encompasses Felanitx,
Porreres, Binissalem, Sencelles, part of Vilafranca or Campos, is
given over to wine-growing, with the characteristic appearance this
gives the landscape – kilometre after kilometre of vineyards, on
either side of the road…Today, there are some really fine Mallorcan
wines on the market – the quality has improved in recent years and
rural tourism has benefited from this, since increasing numbers of
tourists come to our estates for the wine harvest.

The
third large sector of Es Pla is given over to almond growing. This
tree is of course grown all over Mallorca, so its localisation is
dispersed and more heterogeneous than the previous two, which are
more frequently located in quite specific towns. The most
spectacular feature of this crop can be observed in
January-February, when the trees blossom, revealing their full
splendour: in a question of weeks, the fields of Mallorca seem to be
covered in a layer of snow, such is the impact of nature on our
island. |

There
is another, small area, also characterised by its crops – it encompasses
the municipalities of Sa Pobla, Muro and part of Alcúdia. This is the
potato growing area, where the potatoes, leguminous plants and vegetables
you are likely to taste when you stay on one of our estates are grown. And
our Association is aware that our local, traditional produce has to be
protected. It is ours, from Mallorca. Field after field flooded in water
to irrigate the potatoes have been wisely sown for generations here.
Agriculturally speaking, this is one of the most active areas on Mallorca.
Meanwhile, next to it on the coast there is a large area for leisure
activities and the beautiful S’Albufera Natural Park. |
